Getting Started with Wren Education

Watch this guided video walkthrough (4:57 min) to see how it works.

My Activities vs. Drafts My Activities holds the activities you've finalized and are ready to teach. Drafts holds the ones still in progress. Subscribers see both. Free accounts see Drafts only.

Professional Learning: Focus Area vs. My Progress Focus Area shows the sequence you're working through right now. My Progress shows your overview across everything you've done so far.

Check-in After you teach an activity, check in on how it went: a thumbs up, neutral, or thumbs down, plus a note to your future self for next time. That check-in is how your next Field Note gets more suited to your classroom. Check-in is a Subscriber feature.

Creating an activity opens the first professional learning sequence for the routine you chose: four short reads called Field Notes, delivered one at a time, giving you one small thing to try after each activity. Subscribers can also choose other sequences to work through. Free accounts see one sample sequence.

The Library is where it all lives:

-Overviews of all ten routines: what each one does, when to use it, and what changes as you run it more than once

-Overviews of the Mathematical Practices each routine builds: the specific ways of mathematical thinking each activity develops, like constructing an argument or noticing a pattern

-Articles that bring the research behind the routines and practices, cognitive science, math education, and teacher education, into what it actually looks like in your classroom

The first run of a new routine can feel slow or quiet. Explaining their thinking instead of just turning in an answer isn't something most students have practiced out loud, so it takes a little getting used to. That's expected, not a sign something's wrong. It gets easier with repetition: try the same routine again and you'll feel the difference.

Two short reads worth a look, open to everyone regardless of plan:

-Is This Failure, or Normal?

-Both Things at Once
